Good morning parents and guardians of the LTJH community,
Please take a few moments to read and review the information below.
❄️ Colder Weather
Please remind students to wear warm clothing to school. We are a school that goes outside at recess and lunch, so dressing appropriately is important.
If you need support with coats, hats, and or boots, please reach out to administration and we will be happy to help.
⚠️ First Lake – Ice Is Never 100% Safe
Please discuss ice safety with your children this week.
Minimum Ice Thickness Guidelines for new, clear ice:
- Walking requires 4 to 6 inches
- If ice is white or opaque, which is weaker, the minimum thickness doubles to 8 to 16 inches
With fluctuating winter temperatures in Nova Scotia, students should not walk on the ice at First Lake or any nearby bodies of water. Thank you for your support with this important safety reminder.
🇫🇷 French Immersion Information Session
Leslie Thomas Junior High will be hosting a French Immersion Information Session on February 5 at 6:00 pm in the Library.
This session is for parents and guardians of Grade 6 English students who are interested in enrolling in Late French Immersion starting in Grade 7.
⏰ Arrival Times
A reminder that staff arrive on site for supervision at 8:50 am.
On occasion, when weather conditions are poor, students may be permitted indoors earlier, but regular supervision begins at 8:50 am. We understand that some students arrive earlier, however staff supervision starts at that time.
🏀 Game Day Early Dismissal Procedure for All LT Sports Teams
To help keep game days running smoothly, LTJH will now use a standard early dismissal time for all away games.
How it works:
- All team members are dismissed at 2:45 pm on away-game days
- Parents do not need to contact the school for early dismissal
- If a student is travelling with another team parent, a handwritten note must be brought to the office that morning
- Please confirm transportation plans with your child ahead of time when schedules are known
- Same-day planning due to playoffs or late announcements is completely fine
- Early dismissals are excused and recorded as School Activity (ACT)
This applies to volleyball, soccer, basketball, cross country, and all LT sports teams.
