Severe Allergy in school: one of our staff members has a severe allergy to bananas and if a banana is opened, they could go into anaphylaxis shock and will require emergency treatment. We are asking all students and staff to not bring bananas to school. If one is brought by mistake, make sure it isn’t opened and leave it in lunch bag to bring home at the end of the day. We appreciate your support with this.
Picture Day
A reminder that Picture Day is on Tuesday September 9th. See below for more information from the photographer.

Something new
HRCE is dedicated to ensuring the safety, privacy, and well-being of its community. After gathering feedback from families, students, staff, and the community in the spring, we have changed how staff contact information is displayed online due to growing concerns about cyber security and privacy.
Staff directories are no longer listed on school websites. Going forward, you can access teacher and staff contact information in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Click here for instructions on how to find this information in PowerSchool. More information can also be found by logging in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and clicking “Parent Tutorial.” As always, families can reach out to the school directly any time.

Arrivals and Dismissals
For safety reasons, we are asking non-staff vehicles to not come into the driveway/parking lot during drop off and pick up times. Your support with this would be greatly appreciated as busses need as much space as possible to drop students of in the morning and for pick up in the afternoon.
Nova Scotia School Lunch Program Update
Leslie Thomas will be participating in the Nova Scotia School Lunch Program. According to NSlunch.ca, the first order date is September 26th, with meals beginning October 6th. Please create your account and a reminder email will be sent to you when ordering window opens. Any questions about the new lunch program can be directed to lunch@hrce.ca.
Class Change Requests
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate any class change requests.
Demographic Form Updates
On September 9, the Demographic Updates Form will be available to families in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This form should be updated by every family to ensure all information about your child is current, including contacts, medical information, consents and demographics. Even if there are no anticipated changes, please still review this information and submit the form. This information will then be reviewed by the school before updates are finalized. The deadline to submit the form is October 6, 2025.

Information for Parent/Guardian Re: School Portrait Sitting
Your child’s school portraits this year will be taken by Adams Photography Inc. Our company offers high quality portraits at an affordable price. We do our utmost to produce professional portraits of every client. We are sending this flyer to help ensure everything you may need to know before your child’s portrait sitting can be answered. This will help us to deliver those precious memories that last a lifetime.
The portrait sitting day for school is scheduled for SEPTEMBER 9TH Your proofs and order form will be delivered back to your child’s school approximately two weeks after the portrait sitting date. Delivery date of the portraits will be within four weeks of the school order being placed.
We suggest neutral colours and long sleeves for the best portrait results. Please try to refrain from wearing green tops, as the technology we are using, which gives you more background choices has a green base. Please send your child with a comb or brush this day for last minute touch-ups.
The order date deadline will be on the envelope and proof when it is returned to the school. This is the date that all orders should be returned to your child’s school. Payment can made through online ordering or in the form of cash, cheque or money order and sealed in the envelope provided.
Your order date is very important. Late orders will not be returned with the original orders and will probably be delayed by another 4-6 weeks.
The date for re-shoots will be coordinated through the school administration office and announcements sent home with the students. Please note if your first portrait session is acceptable please do not take the chance of a reshoot, because it will not be possible to receive an order from the first session once you have the reshoot taken.
One class picture will be given to each student free of charge.
Family Deal: Families with 3 or more children will receive 10.00 off their total order.
