Good evening parents and guardians of the LTJH community,
It was great seeing so many of you at Curriculum Night this week! We are looking forward to a great year!
Please take some time to read and review:
Hold and Secure
We will have a Hold and Secure Drill during this upcoming week.
Hold and Secure Drills
This drill is held once per school year. A Hold and Secure is called when there’s a safety concern outside a school (police activity nearby, an animal of concern). It can also be called when a situation needs to be managed inside a school (a medical emergency or a matter that requires privacy) and it’s best to limit students’ movement in the building. Exterior doors are locked, and no one is allowed to enter or exit the school. Students remain in the building, but regular classroom activities continue. In some cases, movement from class to class can be suspended until the matter is resolved.
Our Hold and Secure drill will be the week of September 22nd.
You can learn more about Hold and Secure and Lockdown Procedures in HRCE schools here.
Please contact school administration if you have any questions about these drills.
Bake Sale
"Kwe’ staff students and friends of Leslie Thomas Junior High. We need your help!
On September the 26th, HRCE schools will be observing Truth and Reconciliation Day, or as it's sometimes known, Orange Shirt Day. Truth and Reconciliation Day is observed in honour and memory of the thousands of Indigenous children harmed by the Indian Residential School System. We especially reflect on those who survived, and those who did not. We wear orange on this day to raise awareness but we at LTJH, have decided to take action and make an effort to support our local Indigenous population through a fundraiser. Hence, we are asking for volunteers to assist us in a bake sale! We need donations of baked goods so we can sell them at a pay-what-you-can price to our staff and students on September 26th.
All proceeds from this bake sale will be donated back to the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre, a grassroots Indigenous organization that offers a variety of supports to our Indigenous population here in Kjiputuk/Halifax. If you are able to donate some baked goods toward a great cause, please sign up below by clicking the form and let us know what you can offer! (We will accept any donations but are especially hoping to receive baked goods that also keep in theme with orange-shirt day such as orange icing, orange sprinkles, etc.).
Wela'lin and thank you!"
👉 Please sign up to donate using our Google Form: LT Bake Sale Donations Sign-Up
For all who donate we will put your name in a draw for 1of 5 t-shirts for Orange Shirt Day! Every Child Matters
